TTI 2015 was held at TTU this summer and was a blast. We got to stay in the dorm rooms at the university and even ordered pizza every night. And what's really cool is they gave us all matching shirts to wear each day we were there! But mainly it was about coming together with people from all over Tennessee. Our CCHS SADD group was all separated and put into different 'families' for the week. 'Families' were groups formed where every single teen was from a different school, and the 'parents' were just participants that have attended before. But during our 'family' meetings we got to discuss important issues in our communities and learn about popular issues among most teens. And then we had a time each day to meet and come up with a community action plan with our CCHS SADD members. This year we decided to focus on underage tobacco use. Our high school has a lot of underage tobacco abuse, so we came up with plans on how to get kids to hopefully stop. Also while we were at TTI we were fortunate enough to hear great guest speakers. For instance Kevin Wanzer had us laughing almost the whole time with his amazing presentation, and Blake McMeans brought tears to our eyes with his first hand experience on drunk driving. All of the keynote speakers shared their personal stories and you felt connected to them. Every person motivated me to go back to our community and help change the minds and decision making of the youth. Overall TTI was a great experience and I would love to go back next summer.
